Currants
Currants — genus Ribes — are native all across the northern hemisphere. They and their siblings Gooseberries have been cultivated in Europe for centuries. Many native species of currant are found throughout eastern and western North America.
The currants you’ll receive are strongly rooted and vary in height from about one to two feet tall. Often a single leader, but you might receive one with more.
Potted in 10” containers.
Varieties:
Titania — black currant, Ribes nigrum — developed in Sweden 1969-1974. One of the most popular varieties. Large berries, great flavor, and very productive.
Minaj Smeriou — black currant, Ribes nigrum — Bulgarian variety. Early season, excellent flavor.
Lewis R — black currant, Ribes nigrum — named after Lewis Hill. My favorite flavor.
Jonkheer Van Tets — red currant — Dutch variety with very sweet flavor.
